The Controller position is accountable for the company's accounting operations, which includes the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk. These responsibilities also enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
Additional responsibilities include overseeing the operations of the accounting department, which incorporates the design of an organizational structure that's adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives. The Controller will also coordinate the provision of information to external auditors and regulatory examiners for their audits, and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings. Effective communication via telephone, e-mail, fax, correspondence, or in person is a must.
The ideal Controller candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration, or equivalent business experience. They should have over 10 years of progressively responsible experience in banking. Preference will be given to candidates with Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations.
